The Mooloolaba Christmas boat parade was the creation and brain child of an american lady by the name of Julie Nunn who brought the idea from her hometown in Newport Beach, California USA and thought that mooloolaba needed some christmas spirit.
The parade was started in 2002 and then taken over by Mooloolaba Marina and Mark West in 2007, Julie gave up the reigns to Mark West because the parade got too big for the one person to hold. Mark West and his team of ladies from Mooloolaba Marina have been doing the great job of running the parade ever since.
The Parade saw a huge drop in participants over the last couple of years due to the legal battle over the Yacht Club and Marina, this being the main reason the parade has now been handed over to Seafood Cruise Mooloolaba.
We now have a small committee running the parade with 2010 being our first year. We have James Thorogood and Renee Underhill at the reigns now and between the two of them they should be able to pull off the best parade the coast has seen....with the help of the community and the people of the Sunshine Coast.
Together we can all make a parade to look forward to every year, to bring our children to and to kick off the festive season with an amazing community party, we would like to see this parade be recognized on the world scale as an event to be witnessed and as a major draw card for the Sunshine Coast Tourism calendar.
